BGI Group Showcases Life Science Innovation at the 9th CIIE, Advancing Accessible Health for All

Nov 5, 2026

SHANGHAI, November 5—The 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened today in Shanghai, bringing together companies, institutions and innovators from around the world. BGI Group is participating in this year’s Expo with a broad portfolio of innovations spanning intelligent health systems, precision health services and consumer wellness solutions.

BGI Group participates in the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE), showcasing a broad portfolio of innovations spanning intelligent health systems, precision health services, and consumer wellness solutions.

As a major platform for China’s openness and international exchange, CIIE creates opportunities for cross-border dialogue across industries, technologies and ecosystems. At this year’s event, BGI Group aims to connect with global partners, support frontier scientific research through core technological innovation, and accelerate the translation of life science advances into practical health solutions for everyday life.

A smart health assessment terminal developed by BGI has been selected for display in the China Pavilion. Designed to support intelligent health evaluation, the solution offers visitors from around the world a closer look at how life science and digital health technologies can be integrated into more accessible, user-friendly health solutions.

Enabling a New Model of Proactive Health

One of the central questions in modern healthcare is how to shift from a reactive model—seeking help only after illness appears—toward earlier prevention, continuous monitoring and proactive improvement. Drawing on its multi-omics technology capabilities, BGI has developed a precision health framework named “133111i” designed to provide the public with measurable, sustainable and personalized pathways for health improvement.

At CIIE, BGI is presenting a suite of intelligent hardware and digital health services built around this “133111i” approach. The smart health assessment terminal serves as a key offline touchpoint. Powered by Genos, an open-source Human-Centric genomic foundation model jointly developed by BGI-Research and Zhejiang Lab, and supported by multimodal data analysis and intuitive human-machine interaction, the terminal enables users to complete self-guided assessments across five dimensions: facial health indicators, vision, hearing, cognitive function and physical condition. The goal is to make health self-assessment more convenient and accessible.

A companion digital health platform accessed via mobile devices can further integrate genetic data, physical examination results, and multi-omics information to help quantify an individual’s health status, identify potential risks, and provide personalized recommendations. By supporting long-term health tracking and improvement, the platform reflects BGI’s broader vision of moving precision health from specialist settings into daily life.

BGI is also presenting a range of innovative devices and application scenarios at the Expo. These include at-home health testing solutions based on advanced genetic testing technologies, enabling non-invasive sample collection and rapid reporting for everyday health needs. A smart community health station is designed for family and primary public health settings, allowing multiple physiological indicators to be collected in one place.

Other showcased solutions include a self-collection peripheral blood sampling system that uses microneedle array technology to support convenient upper-arm blood collection at home; a lightweight portable ultrasound device that expands screening capacity across clinical diagnosis, primary care and home-care scenarios; and an AI-based health screening solution that uses multimodal eye imaging to identify potential health risks across multiple body systems.

BGI is also displaying a non-invasive sleep health intervention device that applies long-term neuroscience research to personalized sleep support. In addition, genetic metabolism testing applications are being introduced into everyday leisure settings, including solutions related to alcohol metabolism and coffee consumption, demonstrating how genetic insights can become part of daily lifestyle management.

Bringing Genetic Technologies into Everyday Life

The value of frontier technology lies not only in scientific discovery, but also in its ability to move beyond the laboratory and improve daily life. In addition to advanced technologies and intelligent devices, BGI is introducing a series of consumer-oriented health products at CIIE, highlighting the growing role of genetic and life science technologies in everyday wellness.

In gut health, BGI has built on its research in the human microbiome and its microbial resource capabilities to develop a range of probiotic solutions for different population needs. It is also presenting personalized gut health and nutrition programs that match formulas to individual conditions, reflecting a shift from one-size-fits-all wellness products toward more precise and customized support.

In cell health, BGI is leveraging its combined gene and cell technology platform to provide a range of cell storage services covering multiple cell types across the human life cycle, helping individuals build long-term biological resource reserves for future health needs. It is also introducing an immune health assessment solution based on single-cell sequencing technology, designed to translate complex immune system information into clearer, more understandable health information for proactive care.

In skin health, BGI is exploring the application of natural bioactive ingredients in personal care. Using bioactive extracts as core ingredients, the company is presenting science-based skincare solutions that bring life science research into daily skin maintenance and support more targeted, effective skincare routines.

Building Global Partnerships for Inclusive Health

As the world’s first national-level expo dedicated to imports, CIIE continues to serve as a platform for international procurement, investment promotion, people-to-people exchange and open cooperation. Through this global platform, BGI Group looks forward to deepening collaboration with partners worldwide, bringing together innovation resources and building an open, mutually beneficial ecosystem.

Guided by its mission to use genetic technology for the benefit of humanity, BGI will continue to advance breakthroughs in life science research and promote the transformation of scientific achievements into practical health solutions—making cutting-edge technology more accessible to people everywhere.
